"Always do better than necessary." -Georges-Edouard Piaget's moto that continues to inspire the company today.

"In 1874 at only 19 he set up his first workshop on the family farm. Here, he dedicated himself to creating high precision movements and components. Even in these early days, his motto "always do better than necessary" is what pushed him to have a self-surpassing attitude that would continue to motivate Piaget today.  Piaget evolved at the hands of Timothée Piaget, Georges-Édouard's son. He transformed the company from being a manufacturer of movements to a creator of luxury wristwatches and pocket watches. In 1943 Piaget became a registered trademark and two years later, a new larger manufacture was set up in their home of La Côte-aux-Fées, laying the groundwork for the Piaget we know today. This acceleration was carried on by the third generation of the Piaget family, Gérald and Valentin Piaget.

The obsession with the ultra-thin started with Valentin Piaget, who pursued this sleek technicality to cement it as a signature of the brand. In 1957, the mechanical hand-wound 9P caliber is what brought Piaget to center stage for ultra-thin movements, causing a splash at the Basel Fair. In 1960, the journey continued with the ingenious micro-rotor concept that enabled Piaget to create the thinnest automatic movement in the world, 12P caliber This established Piaget as the reference for elegance in men's ultra-thin watches." -piaget.com/history

Let's talk about the outstanding movement! This ultra-thin, caliber 12P movement is what Piaget is well known for, as it was a prominent feat- the thinnest movement during that time period. Piaget has always been a leader in engineering the thinnest of movements. Prior to the 12P caliber, there was the 9P caliber, the smallest at the time (surpassed by the 12P.) Piaget's motto always do better than necessary has definitely driven the company to continue to be a leader in the watch making industry.

The automatic Swiss movement of this wristwatch is only 2.3mm thick, and features 30 jewels, 6 adjustments, 12P caliber, all in a 5.2mm thick cushion-style case. The micro-rotor is entirely 18K yellow gold.

1960s.

This Piaget wristwatch is truly stunning, both for its unique dial and the iconic ultra-thin movement with micro rotor. It is presented on a beautiful brown genuine leather 2-piece strap with gold buckle.

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women’s watches from the 1900s-1970s were also much smaller than today's offerings. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have pertaining to size.

We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust lighting when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.

The condition is pre-owned.
The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear but is fully operational and functions as intended.
Please review the photos and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

It will be carefully packed.
